[...] Agile and UX Coaching – Anders Ramsay.comOnce again, Joe Sokohl comes through with key insights, pointing out something that was obvious in my mind but I did not state explicitly in the post – the idea of a UX Coach is analogous to an Agile Coach. Just like the Agile Coach is not part of a team but helps the team undergo the transformation from a traditional to an Agile approach, so too does a UX Coach help Agile teams undergo a similar transformation, from UX being a vaguely mysterious notion to something that is just another normal part of an Agile project lifecycle.
Great article. I think one important and overlooked point is that both designers and developers need continual UX coaching throughout a project. As you put it the short-term velocity will be lower but overall will be higher.

Interesting article, Anders. I like the thought of being a coach in my organization. It seems to me that, for this to be a useful strategy, your organization has to be at a certain level of UX maturity. People have to all be clear on what UX is all about, and what that end-vision is, that they can all work and converge on a solution. Also, project stakeholders (developers, business, operations, etc) have to 1) trust each other, and 2) be willing to work outside their job role. In lots of enterprises I've worked in, the attitude of the team is, "That's the design team's job to make it pretty, and not my problem..."

So part of the UX coaching needs to including some of that organizational teaming component, helping people get pass the 'that's not in my job role' point of view.
